Important Update for NIV Applicants in Canada – Effective May 1, 2025

Starting May 1, 2025, applicants for Nonimmigrant Visas (NIV) at any U.S. consular section in Canada must present a DS-160 confirmation number that matches the application number used when scheduling their appointment. Failure to provide matching numbers will require applicants to reschedule their interview and may result in additional visa fees.

To ensure you are not turned away, update your DS-160 application number at least 3 business days before your scheduled appointment. 

Steps to Verify and Update Your Application Number:

  1. Verify: Ensure the Visa Application ID (DS-160) number you plan to submit matches the number you entered in the Visa Appointment System.
  2. Update: If the numbers do not match, enter the correct application number in the Visa Appointment System. You can update your application number once without canceling your appointment.
  3. Need Help? If you need assistance updating your application number, visit the Contact Us page for support.

Remember to bring your DS-160 confirmation page with you to your interview.
