**Flatbush Farm Share is a partnership of the Flatbush Community & the New York City Coalition Against Hunger**
WHAT IS A FARM SHARE/COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA)? A Farm Share or CSA connects a city neighborhood with a local farmer. When you become a member of the Flatbush Farm Share, you receive a weekly share of vegetables grown on the Farm at Miller’s Crossing, located outside of Hudson, NY. Our CSA gives you fresh, organic, local vegetables at an affordable price for the 22 weeks between June and October. The Flatbush Farm Share is also a community, with trips to the farm, potlucks, cooking demonstrations, and more!
A CSA is not like shopping at the supermarket, because the farmer determines each week’s share according to what is ripe. The quantity of food varies, but you will always receive 5-10 types of vegetables per week.
BECOMING A MEMBER
To become a member of the Flatbush Farm Share, you must purchase a share and commit to 4 volunteer hours per season. Fill out the form and send in a check.
PICKING UP YOUR SHARE
Our Summer distribution site is the Flatbush Reform Church, located at East 21st Street between Church Ave and Kenmore Terrace‐‐just blocks from the B or Q trains and close to the B41 and B35 bus routes. There is a parking lot on site. The Farm will deliver our produce every Wednesday from June 6th to October 31th and pick up is between 5:30pm‐8pm. If you do not pick up your share it will be donated. You will not be reimbursed for any shares you do not pick up. Y so if you cannot come, and do not want your share donated, find a friend to pick up your share for you!
We are entirely run on volunteer labor. Summer share membership means committing to 4 hours of volunteering over the course of the season. Volunteer activities mainly include setting up, facilitating, and cleaning up the distribution site on pick‐up day. Additional volunteer work may include doing outreach, contributing articles to our newsletter, translating, organizing events, or actively participating in the planning group. Once you sign up for our CSA, we will contact you about setting up your volunteer schedule.
SLIDING SCALE PRICE STRUCTURE
Our prices are based on member income levels and household size. Level 1is reserved for anyone on public assistance or who receives SNAP (food stamps); Level 2-3 is for low to mid income households and is also below the farmer's price, which adds to our subsidy demand. We accept EBT payments for both veggies and extra shares.
Please understand that if you sign up for Level 1, 2, or 3, you are taking an exclusive spot due to limited funding. If you have the resources, please pick a Higher Level (especially levels 4 or 5)! Our mission is to make fresh, organic food accessible to low income members of the Flatbush Community. However, even the prices for levels 4-5 are less than those in our local supermarkets. Please note that members at Level 1 can use food stamps for all or part of their membership; members at Level 1 and Level 2 can pay in weekly installments throughout the season or upfront. Level 3-5 members must pay in full upfront by May 11, 2012 at the latest.
PLEASE NOTE LEVELS 1, 2 & 3 ARE NOW CLOSED. ANYONE PLACING ORDERS FOR LEVELS 1, 2 & 3 WILL BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO GET ON THE WAITING LIST--SPOTS CAN OPEN UP DURING THE SEASON.
