UW Community College Master Teacher Institute 2022 - Globalization at a Crossroads: Integration and Fragmentation in the Global System

ABOUT:

The 2023 Community College Master Teacher Institute will be held on the UW campus in Seattle on July 24-25, and will focus on how diversity, equity and inclusion issues are being addressed in different countries and contexts around the world. Educators will learn how to add a global perspective when teaching these topics in their classrooms.

While the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) movement has its origins in the United States, nations around the world are pursuing their own efforts to ensure fair treatment of full participation of everyone in their respective societies. DEI challenges and efforts vary depending on different societal and cultural contexts, creating an opportunity to learn about how diversity is perceived and promoted in other countries. Diversity issues and efforts in some countries may center on religion and ethnicity, while in more homogenous societies they may be more focused on gender and age. The 2023 CCMTI will use these themes to help educators think about how to integrate a global DEI perspective to the classroom. The two-day workshop will feature a range of academic and practitioner experts examining these topics from a range of disciplinary and regional perspectives.

The CCMTI is open to community college instructors who teach courses related to global and regional studies, or who currently or plan to incorporate global themes into their teaching in other disciplines.
