NHS Community Service Form & Volunteer Log
All Titans are required to complete 20 hours of community service in order to fulfill graduation requirements at Nipomo High School.

In this time of COVID-19 and distance learning, how we serve the community may look different. Please always think safety first and abide by the Center for Disease Control's recommendations to keep yourself and others safe!

Some examples and ideas for how to complete community service:

Do Something: https://join.dosomething.org/

Teen Angels: http://www.teenangels.org/

PASTA: Peers And Students Taking Action: https://wearepasta.org/who-we-are/

Volunteer Crowd: https://www.volunteercrowd.com/local-student-volunteer-opportunities

Volunteer Nation: http://www.volunteennation.org/about

And on your own:
-- Write notes, make videos, and, within proper safety precautions, help others in your community
-- Create a Peer Mentor
-- Create a YouTube channel to read children's books to the local elementary schools
-- Create a YouTube channel to read to senior citizens in the area
-- If you are helping siblings with homework or reading, make a video of the work & share it with Nipomo Elementary or Mesa Middle school students on YouTube or Social Media (let me know if you need the email address of a counselor or admin at those sites).
-- Play Virtual Bingo with a local retirement community
-- Establish contact with a local nursing home and send notes, pictures, drawings, video or real time (FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangout) with that community. They would love to see what you are doing, and many residents there are not able to have contact with anyone due to being at risk.
-- Write letters of appreciation to local medical and first responders, leave notes for elderly neighbors that you know may need assistance with small/safe items (do not go into the house of anyone you do not know, but for example, if they leave a note back as to where their trash cans are, you can pull them out to the curb.)
-- Draw inspirational and motivational chalk art on neighborhood sidewalks. Make a video or other montage of your work

Any work that you do can be documented here. Be sure to update it with every activity that you do so that you don’t forget about it and so that it gets counted toward your hours for graduation. Remember, it is okay to get creative with how you volunteer at this time; however, helping around your house is your family responsibility and not community service / volunteer work.
