The Relationship Between Coping, Mindset, and Flow
This workshop aims to help students learn to implement a growth mindset and positive coping strategies, and establish flow in their academic work. The event defines and ties together some main points of research from three different psychologists:
• Carol Dweck's research regarding development of a growth mindset
• James Pennebaker's studies indicating the importance of emotional disclosure
• Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's concept of "flow", a full, energized focus and being completely immersed in an activity for its own sake.
Students will leave with an understanding of how their mental and emotional processes are in a working relationship with one another.

Successful Scholarships: Get That Money
This skillshop will help prepare students for filling out scholarship applications. They will learn the importance of a proper Letter of Recommendation and what "proper" entails. They will learn the significance of community service and college engagement in scholarship applications. Individuals will be encouraged to share their unique stories and avoid the cliches. Free access to Valencia College's Writing Center is promoted.
The goal of this skillshop is to ensure that our students in financial need have the best chance of being awarded any scholarships, grants, fellowships, etc. for which they apply.
