APF UN Internship - Spring 2020
Internship with the American Pakistan Foundation (APF) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

APF is recruiting a cohort of approximately four interns to serve at the UN this upcoming Spring. Interns will have the unique opportunity to serve at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. They will represent the American Pakistan Foundation (APF), an organization dedicated to building bridges between the United States and Pakistan.

APF reserves special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Council (ECOSOC) as a Major Stakeholder in reviewing and recommending development policy. APF UN facilitates interactions between Pakistani civil society organizations and the United Nations as part of the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) System.

APF UN participates in and makes policy recommendations at multiple UN commissions and high-level meetings. Interns will have the opportunity to work on policy projects around specific commissions and thematic issues to gain an insider’s perspective on international development.

Interns will work together as a cohort on specific projects and represent the organization at special events and conferences at and near the UN in New York City. The internship curriculum will incorporate experiential education through structured experiences to ensure a balance between learning goals and specific internship work. As a group, the interns will author an outcome document that will be archived at the United Nations to be shared with the APF community.

The internship will start with an orientation in New York City with the APF team and relevant leaders.

Duties
• Work directly with the APF team and fellow interns on statements and other projects.
• Conduct research, writing, and prepare content on a variety of topics.
• Regularly attend meetings, events, and conferences at the UN.
• Document participation at UN activities with photos, videos, and writing to be shared on APF's communications platform of more than 120,000 connections across email and social media.
• At least one of the interns may need to speak publically at special events and forums.
• Complete other duties as needed.

Duration
This internship will run the duration of the Spring 2019 semester with the possibility of starting early and/or going into the summer.

Qualifications
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Comfortability with teamwork.
• Strong research and writing skills.
• Willingness to learn about various Pakistani development organizations and issues.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Requirements
• Already live within commuting distance of the United Nations in New York City and be willing to go to the UN at least once per week.
• Be available to serve 10-15 hours/week regularly.
• Be a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
• Participate in UN activities that usually take place from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Your school schedule will be the priority.
• Attend the orientation in New York City. It will be scheduled according to everyone's availability.
• Participate in all internship related activities.

Internship Information
• Internship positions are on a volunteer basis.
• Interns have one week off for midterms, and one week off for finals. They are required to share their dates at the start.
• While not required, APF will complete paperwork for external funding and/or class credit.
• Interns who complete the full internship program with at least satisfactory performance can receive a recommendation letter from APF staff upon request.
