Industry Classroom Visits
For the past year, Portland Metro STEM Partnership (PMSP) has been collaborating with local industries to bring innovative volunteer experiences to our region's classrooms. The success of these engagements rely on industry "thought-partners" who can build connections with young people through shared curiosity and challenges. Students can begin to recognize the links between classroom lessons and STEM-related careers when relating to an interested industry professional.

Industry Volunteer Purpose:
Volunteers work with teachers to be thought-partners on Texting and Driving unit's design projects. The industry professional's role is to ask questions that encourage student thinking, offer ideas based on similar circumstances at their jobs, and reinforce students belief in their own capacity to be successful.

Logistics:
PMSP will coordinate industry volunteer visits based on teacher and volunteer availability during the Waves and Technology and Energy and Power Production units. Each volunteer and teacher will receive training prior to their visit.
