2018 Workshop Proposal
for MD/DE/WV SCBWI Conference March 17-18, 2018 in Linthicum Heights, MD
MD/DE/WV SCBWI 25th Annual March Conference: 25 and Still We R(ev)ise
WHERE: Maritime Conference Center, Linthicum Heights, MD
WHEN: Saturday, March 17 to Sunday, March 18, 2018, with social activities scheduled for Friday evening.

In 2018 we are celebrating 25 years of SCBWI in MD/DE/WV, writing and illustrating for children. The theme of the conference is "25 and Still We R(ev)ise". We are looking for programming relating to all aspects of revising and rising to make our books and our careers the best they can be!

We welcome proposals for breakout sessions (50 minute workshops on Saturday, March 17) and intensive workshops (3 hour sessions scheduled for the morning of Sunday, March 18). Please submit a separate proposal form for each workshop topic you would like us to consider. If a workshop topic could be adapted to either a breakout or an intensive format, you need only submit it once and indicate that on the form.

We are seeking proposals in the following areas:
-various categories of children’s literature such as picture book, middle grade, young adult and nonfiction
-genres common to children's literature such as contemporary, fantasy, mystery, humor, tragedy, historical.
-sessions focusing on the craft of writing and illustrating: setting, voice, character development, illustration techniques, etc.
-the business of children's books: marketing, promotion, website design, technology, school visits, social media, querying and submitting, working with agents, etc.

We welcome all proposals from published authors and illustrators, editors, agents, art directors, publicists, and anyone who has a session that can benefit our members' work.

Presenters will receive an honorarium, lodging, meals, and have travel covered. Presenters will also have the opportunity to receive a higher honorarium in exchange for providing 10-page manuscript critiques or portfolio reviews to conference participants.

While we will not be able to accept every proposal for the conference itself, we will save all proposals and may contact you about another event in the future if your proposal is not chosen for the 2018 conference.

We will accept proposals through September 30, 2017.

For questions, contact co-Regional Advisors Kathy MacMillan and Sue Poduska at mddewv@scbwi, with the subject line Workshop Proposals 2018.
