Economic Guidance for Coastal Management Professionals: Pathways to Valuing Ecosystem Services

Course  Description: This module provides an overview of three common paths used to estimate the value of ecosystem services: site-specific studies, benefits transfer, and tools with built-in benefits. Each path will include information on its strengths and limitations, and on relevant support tools such as BlueValue (for benefits transfer) and the FEMA Benefit-Cost Analysis Toolkit (for tools with built-in benefits).

  • Conduct a rough benefits-transfer estimate
  • Choose the proper pathway for ecosystem service valuation based on available time, funding, and expertise
  • Access relevant support tools and valuation data

- Shared among NOAA staff for work-related purposes.
- Photographs, videos, audio recordings may be shared externally and displayed on NOAA websites and social media platforms, and as part of physical displays/exhibits.

We reserve the right to hide, delete or not post comments that contain: Vulgar or abusive language or gestures; personal or obscene attacks of any kind; offensive terms targeting individuals or groups; threats or defamatory statements; suggestions or encouragement of illegal activity; or any other that may infringe upon the purpose for which the information was collected for.
