B-Smart Daycare & OSC offers access to Program Unit Funding (PUF) support through an accredited private school partner (Edmonton Islamic Academy) for eligible children.
To ensure the safety, consistency, and effectiveness of support, children enrolled at B-Smart Daycare & OSC who require PUF-supported services must receive those services through B-Smart’s accredited private school partner during their hours of attendance at B-Smart. Children who receive PUF services exclusively through external agencies and do not receive support during their time at B-Smart will not be accepted as children requiring additional supports within our program.
Experience has shown that when children with developmental delays or learning differences attend without appropriate on-site support, their needs cannot be adequately met within a regular licensed program and may impact staffing ratios, supervision, and overall program safety. For this reason, if a child requires additional supports and PUF services cannot be delivered through B-Smart during attendance hours, families may be asked to withdraw from the program and transition to a placement that is better equipped to meet the child’s needs.
Children must be at least two years and eight months (2.8 years) of age to be considered for Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and Occupational Therapy (OT) screenings under the PUF program. PUF-related screenings and assessments are conducted once annually in September of each academic year. Families will be formally notified of assessment outcomes and informed of the type and level of support their child will receive, if eligible.
If a child misses the September PUF assessment window, or if assessment results indicate that the child’s needs exceed what can be reasonably supported through PUF, families may be required to secure additional external supports (such as Community Options or FSCD). Any required external supports must be delivered on-site at B-Smart during the child’s hours of attendance, to ensure appropriate supervision, safety, and continuity of care.
If families are unable to arrange for required supports to be provided during attendance hours at B-Smart, or if the child’s needs continue to exceed what can be safely supported within our regular licensed program, families may be asked to withdraw the child and transition to a program better suited to the child’s needs.
All decisions related to PUF support and continued enrollment are made based on program capacity, safety considerations, and the best interest of the child, while also ensuring the well-being of staff and other enrolled children.
