2019 Summer Training Leave Request Chicago-Northwest Indiana
Summer Training Commitments
Given the pace of Summer Training and our desire to make sure every corps member is adequately prepared to teach at their placement school and can take full advantage of the training opportunity, our expectation is that every corps member attends every day of Summer Training. Summer Training is an intense program, and a lot happens in a very condensed time period beginning the very first day. Absences can put a corps member’s development behind and will not only impede a corps member's readiness to teach, but will also place an extra burden on fellow team members to ensure all daily teaching and lesson preparation responsibilities are accounted for.

We also realize that corps members may have planned important events that overlap with the training schedule. In an effort to strike a balance between the two, we have developed a policy that strives to respect personal commitments while maximizing training over the summer.

Post Summer Training Commitments
Corps members should keep in mind there will be more Teach For America professional development sessions in August, university partner classes, professional development at individual placement school sites, and continued interviewing for unplaced corps members. As such, we recommend corps members do not make any plans to leave Chicago following Summer Training until they know what the rest of the summer will look like from their school, university partner and Teach For America.

I UNDERSTAND CMs ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND EVERY DAY OF SUMMER TRAINING AND SHOULD ONLY REQUEST TO MISS DAY/S FOR EXTREMELY COMPELLING PERSONAL SITUATIONS. *
