Intercultural Communication Study

Please read the following information provided carefully before you decide to take part in this study.

Purpose of the study:
The aim of the study is to find out more about how people communicate in different cultures, focusing on Chinese international students studying at a British university. This questionnaire is the primary tool for data collection in the study.

You are invited to take part in the study if you are from China and currently on a degree course at a British university. The study will not affect your marks, assessments, or future studies. You are not obliged to take part in the study and should not agree to take part unless you are happy with the information provided before hand. If you have any further questions please contact the researcher or supervisor.

If you are happy to take part in the questionnaire, it will begin after you have clicked continue. The questionnaire contains two sections; the first asks for some basic information about you, which is followed by a second section containing a number of hypothetical situations in which you would communicate with someone else. You are asked to respond to that person in a way that is the most socially acceptable to you. Completing the questionnaire should not exceed fifteen minutes.

Risk:
Participation is risk free. The time taken to complete the questionnaire is the main disadvantage to taking part in the study.

Confidentiality:
Participation is voluntary. If you decide to take part in the study, your responses will be held securely until the study is complete. The information you give will not make it possible to link the data to you as an individual and will be kept strictly confidential throughout the study.

The results of the study will be used for an English Language BA dissertation at the University of Sussex. I am conducting research as a student at the University of Sussex and have approval by the School of English ethical review process.
