Florida CEC presents the President’s Award annually to recognize CEC units in the state for actions that support the mission and goals of the Council For Exceptional Children. These guidelines were developed to assist unit leaders in working effectively with members of their units. According to criteria established in FCEC Policies & Procedures, the award will be granted to ALL Unit/Chapter Leaders/Presidents who earned at least 80% of the points. Awards will be presented at our Annual Conference October 22-24, 2020 at Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort in Daytona Beach, Florida. Deadline to complete this document is no later than October 16, 2020. As always, thank you for all you do for Exceptional Student Education in Florida.

Please put a check-mark next to each item your unit was able to complete during the 2019 - 2020 year. Awards will be given to chapters/units scoring 104 points or more out of the possible 130 points. Collegiality and Networking Activities: Please check the activities that your unit completed. (29 possible points)

(5 POINTS) Send a unit board member to the Annual Leadership Conference

(5 POINTS) Host or conduct one of the following activities: 1) a state board meeting or conference, 2) an event at a meeting or conference, 3) joint meeting with another CEC unit, 4) joint meeting with a Student CEC unit

(5 POINTS) Nominate a member for a Marjorie Crick TOY, Jack Lamb Rookie TOY, or Landis Stetler Award

(3 POINTS) Disseminate state award, mini-grant, and scholarship information in your district

(3 POINTS) Link with other community agencies/organizations for activities

(2 POINTS) Communicate with FCEC Membership Chair

(3 POINTS) Nominate a student for the “Yes I Can” award

(2 POINT) Distribute monthly or quarterly local newsletter to your chapter members

(1 POINT) Submit a local story or chapter highlight to be posted on FCEC website/monthly newsletter

(5 POINTS) Participate in the Children and Youth Advocacy Network (CAN) in DC

(5 POINTS) Conduct activities that facilitate awareness of exceptional students during the state Exceptional Student Education Awareness week

(2 POINTS) Submit a success story for the Annual CEC Budget Book distributed on Capitol Hill

(3 POINTS) Name a CAN network board chair to State CAN Chair to forward federal legislative and policy information to our members

(3 POINTS) Local CAN chair shares the National Legislative Action Center to take a stand and email your elected legislators

(1 POINT) Distribute legislative information to local members

(6 POINTS) Produce a news article/web feature that summarizes current trends and strategies that minimize student barriers to learning

(1 POINT) Retweet/post 3 times during the year to your Facebook materials from State CEC Twitter and/or Facebook that promotes professional learning

5 POINTS) Submit at least 1 article for the monthly state newsletter or state website.

(5 POINTS) Share chapter/unit updates via local website/Twitter/Facebook/Instagram pages

(5 POINTS) Submit assurances at or before the Leadership Conference in June

(5 POINTS) Submit constitution and bylaws to state secretary electronically by Leadership Conference
