Rex Machina STEM Summer Camp 2016
Unfortunately, Sumer 2016 Camp sign up is CLOSED! Check back next year for 2017 dates! Thank you for your interest!
Computer Coding/Programming: Students will learn computer science fundamentals such as problem decomposition, functions, nested loops and conditionals, digital citizenship, and internet transmission methods. They will have the opportunity to design and build their own webpage, create a blog, and learn about internet safety. There will be only 16 spots per week of computer coding. Each pod will have 8 students to one facilitator.
Robotics Build, Program, and Compete: Students will build LEGO MINDSTORM EV-3 robots and program them for specific challenges. They will have a series of events that will be judged based on construction, maneuverability, programming skill, and coopertition (cooperation while competing). This session is directly modeled after FIRST LEGO LEAGUE and your student would be very well prepared to join a competitive FLL team after the camp! There will only be 16 spots per week for robotics. Each pod will have 8 students to one facilitator.
Introduction to Drones: Students will learn electrical engineering, physics and programming skills as they build quad-copter drones. Campers will hone piloting skills on simulators and begin to practice their flying skills outside with actual drones. They also will learn about research on how Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are used to solve problems in our community and the world. There will be only 12 spots for Session 4 Introduction to Drones. Each pod will have six students to one facilitator.
Adcanced Drones: Students, who have already completed Rex Machina Introduction to Drones or who can pass a simple flight test on Monday of camp will study the Dubai Drone aerial track and design a drone obstacle course modeled after it. They will then practice flying drones through this obstacle course and will engage in friendly competition events. They also will learn about research on how Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are used to solve problems in our community and the world. Finally, they will have the chance to learn how to fly a larger drone and create aerial footage using the drone for surveillance. There will be only 12 spots for Session 4 Advanced Drones. Each pod will have six students to one facilitator.
Girls Only STEM: This unique opportunity will be available for only 1 week. We will have female facilitators and female students who will work together to explore STEM through hands on activities. We will incorporate some of the activities from the drones, computer coding and robotics camps, and we will also do projects using chemistry and botany. Finally, we will learn about career opportunities in the STEM field. We will even have a few guest speakers to motivate our girls to break into STEM fields! There will only be 18 spots during the Girls STEM week. Each pod will have 6 students to one facilitator.
Camp will be held from 9am - 2pm at Turin Baptist Church 29 Church St, Turin, GA 30289 July 11-15 (Session 4). You may drop off as early as 8:45am and pick up as late as 2:15pm.
