The National #PPiMH Children & Young People's MH Awards 2018 - Individual/Group Awards

There are three awards for individuals, and four awards where either an individual or group can be nominated.

The Awards are supported by Breakthrough MH, #PPiMH Collaborative, NHS England and NW Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Individual Awards

1) Personal Journey –
This award is given in recognition that some young people overcome huge challenges to achieve success – be it in their family, social, educational or work lives. For the individual child or young person that has attained significant improvements in his/her own life such as overcoming challenges to stay in school/education and achieve personal targets. Their story will serve as an inspiration to other Children and Young people. The child/young person must be nominated by an adult either from their school, health or social care provider. Parents/carers can nominate their child/young person, alongside endorsement from one of the group above.

2) Volunteer of the Year –
This award celebrates the volunteering efforts of a young person whose volunteering activities has enriched their local community. For the individual child or young person who has made significant contribution to working alongside charity/youth groups, including those not traditionally associated with mental health care and support, championing and raising awareness of mental health within their local communities. The child/young person must be nominated by an adult either from their school, health or social care provider/charity/community group. Parents/carers can nominate their child/young person, alongside endorsement from one of the group above.

3) Champion of the Year –

This award recognises a young person who has made exemplary efforts, possibly under difficult circumstances, to support and enable others to lead more fulfilling life or lives. For the individual child or young person that has made positive contribution to their community or individuals through activities such as campaigning or linking in with their school or other community groups/charities. The judges are looking for inspirational examples of young people who despite their own difficulties have enriched the lives of others. The child/young person must be nominated by an adult either from their school, health or social care provider/charity/community group.

Individual and/or group awards

4) Innovator of the year –
For an individual young person or group who has created a piece of work, including a digital project / social media, to be used by CYPMH and partner organisations such as schools to promote positive mental health and inspire hope in Children and Young people . The judges are looking for entries where children and young people have taken the lead in planning, organising and delivering the project to ensure it reaches as many Children and Young people as possible. The child/young person/group must be nominated by an adult either from their school, health or social care provider or community group.


5) Contribution to Services –
This award is for an individual or group whose efforts in contributing to improving the quality of their local CYPMH services has been exemplary and inspiring to professionals and Children and Young people. For the individual child, young person or group who has contributed their time and energy in enabling and a health or social care organisation to better meet the needs of Children and Young people. The group/organisation can be health, social care, or other public sector (e.g. education). The judges are looking for entries where children and young people have taken the lead in planning, organising and delivering the project and where there has been positive impact on local communities. The child/young person/group must be nominated by an adult either from their school, health or social care provider or community group.

6) Carer/Parent/Sibling award –
This award recognises a group or individual parent, carer or sibling whose efforts in promoting whole family involvement within CAMHS services has improved services within their communities. For the individual parent, carer or sibling or a representative group whose partnership working with CAMHS services has led to an improvement in services by the closer involvement of families within support and care. The judges will particularly look for involvement of families in design, development and delivery of project. The Carer/Parent/Sibling/group can be self-nominated or nominated by the school, health or social care provider/charity/community group. If self-nominated endorsement from one of the group above is needed.

7) Outreach to Vulnerable Groups Award –
For an individual young person or group who helps encourage individuals from groups who have had poor access to ‘traditional’ services to seek support. This award is for individuals or groups who have made significant improvements to the lives of Children and Young people who suffer multiple forms of discrimination and disadvantage. Judges will be looking for examples of individuals or groups who have focused care and support on the needs of the individual Children and Young people, not treating single “conditions”. Nominations can be made by representatives from public, health, social care or third sector, however endorsement must also be provided by young people and or parents/carers or community group

The Awards Ceremony will take place at Manchester Town Hall on Saturday 6th January 2018.
