The webmaster will update and maintain our Millard West Show Choir website. A dependable person with strong communication skills is a must. It's really not rocket science, but an aptitude for technology is desired. If you have any interest in digital design, you might find this to be a lot of fun and we are happy to teach you how to do it all. The webmaster will make sure that competition results, schedules, group pages and Music Lives information are up to date. If you are one of the people who like to know all the info, this might be the job for you! Our current webmaster will work closely with you and be accessible for any questions that might come up.
We will need someone to update this survey and distribute information to the appropriate people next year. You need to know (or be willing to learn) Google Forms/Surveys and Google Sheets.
We are looking for a lot of good men to help with show choir loading, unloading, set up and takedown. This is our chance to help our Directors and Millard West Show Choir. Interested dads should complete the following survey. Being a "Dad Crew" volunteer will not impact your ability to see your child's show. We also hope to build a volunteer base large enough that we can form two teams. This means we will not have to ask dads to work every event. IF you want to be a member of Dad Crew, please mark Yes and shirt size below.
Competition Chaperones
We always need competition chaperones to keep a general eye out for our students throughout the day - in homerooms, the auditorium, etc. Duties would include riding the bus with the students as well as taking attendance and making sure our students are safe and accounted for. Signing up here does NOT commit you to every competition. You can do one or more competitions as you choose.
The Props Crew works during the months prior to competition season to design and build the necessary set props for each of the individual shows. Good with a hammer? Have an engineering mind? Love to paint? Maybe there's a place for you here!
COSTUMING DOES NOT REQUIRE EXPERT SEWING SKILLS!!! We have 1000-2000 pieces each year that need to be ordered, labeled and sorted -- if you can use a sharpie, we can use your help! Many of the pieces we make stage ready with some simple hand-stitching -- adding snaps, tacking down lapels, hemming pants. If you can use a needle and thread, we can use your help! A few items will need more alterations -- so if you have a sewing machine and/or serger and you are not afraid to use them, we can use your help! Signing up to help does not commit you to attending every time we have a work night, but it does put you on the email list to know when those will be held. If you can only come once, that is still great. Many hands make light work and we are a really fun group. Please check below how you would be willing to help. Thank you!
Many of the costume pieces we order from various vendors online and sometimes even shop for in local stores. You would be responsible for communicating with Head Costume Mom and Directors to determine what pieces and sizes need to be purchased, place those orders on a credit card, submit receipts to school for reimbursement in a timely fashion, communicate on shipping & receiving and process returns and exchanges. You must have strong organizational skills, a large credit limit, and strong communication skills. If you feel you fit this description, please check the box below to be considered for this position.
Music Lives is the competition we host at Millard West. This is our group's biggest fundraiser and is essential for our continued success. All students and parents are needed to work a minimum of one shift to make this a prosperous event and you will be contacted to sign-up for your volunteer shift closer to that date. An event of this proportion takes a large amount of planning and preparation. We need help with the planning and coordination of many tasks. We have many opportunities. Please indicate below if you would like information on becoming a committee chair/co-chair and at the end of this section you will be directed to more information. Thank you!
Many times throughout the year our directors, choreographers and clinicians put in long days working with our students and are unable to get away to get a meal. We like to provide them with meals on these long days. Meals can be home cooked or picked up from a restaurant. We need volunteers to provide the meals to the school on those dates and times.
Throughout the season, there are some essential items that our groups need to be their best. We may need donations of things like hairspray, band-aids, throat drops, mirrors, steamers, etc. Please check below if you would like to receive emails requesting donations.
Our final show of the season is That Show Choir Show. This event is made up of two performances of all our groups. The second show also includes a performance by Uptown Cats in the Groove (junior and senior parents), recognition or our seniors and volunteers. Please indicate below if you would like to help with this event.
Put together snack bags and special items/events for out-of-town competitions. This may include decorating the music hallway or creating a special send-off or welcome home for our choirs.
If there are any other areas you feel you can help our organization, please list below. Thank you!
