Our organization is dedicated to empowering Toronto's diverse Black, Indigenous, and marginalized communities through holistic healing practices, food sovereignty, and community engagement. As a member of our Steering Committee, you will play a key role in guiding our strategic direction, supporting our mission, and ensuring the success of our programs and initiatives.

Mission Statement

At Mama's Healing Garden, our mission is to empower and nourish Toronto's diverse Black, Indigenous, and marginalized communities by providing access to nutritious, locally grown food and holistic healing practices rooted in ancestral African wisdom. We are dedicated to addressing food insecurity, fostering youth engagement, and promoting mental and physical well-being through sustainable agriculture, social enterprise initiatives, and culturally relevant programs. Grounded in Indigenous African-centered approaches across all our services and programs, we strive to uplift our community by honoring our heritage and fostering self-determination.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to cultivate a resilient and thriving communities in Toronto, where every individual has the opportunity to grow, heal, and thrive. We envision a future where food sovereignty, holistic health, and cultural empowerment are accessible to all members of our community, breaking down systemic barriers and fostering a legacy of self-determination and equity. Through our commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and collaboration—and by centering Indigenous African approaches in all that we do—we aim to be a beacon of transformation, inspiring communities locally and globally to embrace practices that nurture the body, mind, and spirit.

In the next five years, Mama's Healing Garden envisions becoming a leading hub for holistic healing, food sovereignty, and community empowerment, specifically tailored to the needs and aspirations of Toronto's diverse Melaninated (Black) communities. Our vision is to create a thriving, sustainable, and self-reliant community space that is deeply rooted in Indigenous African-centered approaches and driven by the ancestral wisdom of our heritage.

Expanded Community Impact and Reach:

    • Establish Mama's Healing Garden as a model for community-led urban agriculture, producing a significant amount of locally grown, organic food that directly addresses food insecurity in Black communities across Toronto.
    • Serve as a central gathering place where residents can access culturally relevant healing programs, educational workshops, and social enterprise initiatives that promote mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

Ultimately, in the next five years, Mama's Healing Garden aspires to be a beacon of hope, resilience, and transformation, leading the charge in cultivating a self-sustained, empowered, and interconnected Black community where every individual has the opportunity to grow, heal, and thrive.
