As part of the tradition of the Elba Band Program, the pink cord given at graduation is to present the student an award for exceptional devoted time to band. To be qualified to receive this pink cord, a student must successfully and adequately participate in band for every semester they attend Elba High School during the full year of their 9th-12th grades. This includes signing up for band class, fully participating in the Marching AND Concert Band Programs. Every student in the band program is expected to play an instrument during concert season and participating in chair tryouts, music play offs, practices and concerts. Not doing so eliminates a band student from the opportunity to receive a pink cord. Again the pink cord is an honor for exceptional devotion to the Elba Band. As of the 2021-2022 school year and beyond, this opportunity will be held in accord to what the intention of the pink cord was established by both the band program as well as EHS administration and leadership.
