Each teacher education program in Ohio may select one student each year for OCSS recognition as a “Dr. James J. Sheehan Pre-Service Social Studies Teacher Honoree”
Selected students from each institution will be recognized on our website and other publications (picture, brief biographical statement, etc.) and will receive a letter and certificate from OCSS for their professional portfolio. OCSS will also announce the list of recipients at the annual conference.
General guidelines to assist universities in making their selection:
+The recognized student should have an overall GPA in the department of 3.5 or higher and have a clear understanding of best practices and the social studies approach to teaching.
+The recognized student should demonstrate a desire to become involved in OCSS and other professional social studies organizations to grow as a professional and further the profession.
+The recognized student should demonstrate leadership at her/his institution and community.
+The institution may assign additional criteria related to their teacher education program and professional dispositions.+
