Sign of Surrender-10
One day, John the Baptist was at the Jordan River, baptizing people who confessed their sins and wanted to live a new life. He looked up, and what he saw took him by surprise. The next person in line was…Jesus! John was amazed that the Son of God would come to him to be baptized. If Jesus thought he should get baptized, baptism must surely be important.

Fill each blank with the missing word(s).
1. What does baptism represent ?
Romans 6:3, 4,NKJV- “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His (a) _____? 4 Therefore we were (b)______ with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in (c)________ of life.” The act of baptism represents our acceptance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus for our salvation. Without His sacrifice and His triumphant resurrection, there would be no forgiveness and no eternal life for you and me. Baptism acts as a sign that we have buried our old life and accepted new life in Jesus.

2. What more does baptism represent?
Titus 3:5, NKJV- “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the (a)______ of regeneration and (b)_________ of the Holy Spirit”...The water of baptism signifies washing or cleansing from sin. That is why baptism means immersion [being dipped in water], not sprinkling. Baptism also represents receiving the Holy Spirit into your life to obtain power to live right.

3. What happened at Jesus’ baptism?
Matt. 3:16, NKJV-“ When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God (a)__________ like a dove and alighting upon Him.” Jesus was baptized of water and the Spirit. In John 3:5, NKJV, He says ... “unless one is born of (b)_____ and the (c)______, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Water baptism is an outward sign of surrender to God. But a person can be dipped in the water and still have no newness of life. He needs also the baptism of the Spirit. Baptism of the Spirit is an inward experience. The Holy Spirit comes and takes control of the heart. Surrender is real. The sinner now has a new life, and now has a desire to please the Lord and to share Him with others. The fact is, we cannot successfully live the Christian life if we have not received the Holy Spirit.

There is no middle ground. Whose side are you on?
