PTA Chair / Committee Interest Form
PTA is at risk for losing some of our most valuable programs if we do not have volunteers to chair these events. Please help us prevent these events from being canceled by signing up for the 2026-2027 school year. We are happy to answer any questions you have about any of these programs and you will have guidance from our PTA board during the planning process. All events require at least one chair, but most volunteers form committees to help execute these events/programs.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS WITHOUT SIGNUPS WILL NOT TAKE PLACE IN THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR.

Bike Rodeo

This event for grades 3, 4, and 5 is a fun way of encouraging bike safety and confident riding through an array of riding skill tests. The Chair coordinates event logistics, recruits volunteers, sets up skill tests, and tallies final scores to announce winners.

Time commitment - Event is in March

Book Fair

Anza hosts two book fairs during the year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The chair/committee would place the order for books and recruit volunteers to help set up the fair and work at the cash registers in shifts through the week.

Time commitment - September and May

Copy Club 

The Copy Club is an enthusiastic lot of volunteers who help teachers by copying materials for the classroom. Copy Club runs every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 until around 11:00 with one chair who co-ordinates all efforts. Generally the club is made up of 10 volunteers, with 2-3 volunteers working each day.

Direct Donation (Pledge) Drive

The Direct Donation Drive is the biggest fundraiser for PTA funded events (helps fund intervention teachers too).  Chair would be responsible for promoting the Direct Donation Drive and tracking donation amounts.

Many organizations have an Employer Gift Match program which Anza parents can avail while contributing to the Direct Donation Drive. The chair (with the Financial Team) would help co-ordinate with these organizations for Gift Matches.

Emergency Preparedness

The Chair will conduct an inventory of emergency supplies with the guidance of school leadership regarding the emergency supply needs of the teachers’ classrooms. The Chair organizes a bulk order to replenish supplies.

Fall Family Night

Family Nights takes place one evening during the week of our fall book fair.  Families are encouraged to spend time together enjoying a performance by an entertainment vendor or other family-friendly activities.  Previous Fall Family Nights include our Anza Fall Festival.

Chair / Committee would plan and promote the event and enlist volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and the event support.

Daughter Dance

Chair/Committee would be responsible for choosing a theme, promoting, coordinating, and recruiting volunteers to help during the event.

Honorary Service Awards

Honorary Service Awards are awarded during the spring and are designed as a unique way for PTA units, councils and districts to publicly acknowledge both individuals and organizations for outstanding community service to children and youth in a community. The chair/committee will enlist the help of volunteers to nominate people deserving of the award.  

Time commitment - January/February

Jog A Thon

The Anza Jog-A-Thon happens once a year to raise funds for our PTA programs while promoting fitness among kids. This event needs a chair/committee to plan, promote, and organize the day-of-event details, donation platform and incentives.

Time Commitment - March/April

Local Heroes Day 

Each spring Anza celebrates its own heroes who have or currently serve in the Armed Forces, first responders, law enforcement and fire dept (incl. Anza parents and family members).  It includes a special on-campus morning assembly showcasing our heros and the amazing work that they do for our community.

The chair/committee will work with office staff to coordinate the assembly and identify/invite heroes to be honored at our assembly. 

Time commitment - Event is in April

Open House

The chair/committee would help:

  • Coordinate with all classroom parents to organize baskets for our auction at Open House.  
  • Book entertaiment and food vendors
  • Plan additional fundraising opportunities/activities during the event

Time commitment - Open House is scheduled for May

PTA Membership

The membership chair is responsible for promoting our membership drive which is managed through an online platform, Totem.  Chair is encouraged to continue promotion throughout the year.

Time Commitment - Planning in August; Promote in August/September

Read Across America

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program.  The program was created by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1997 and is designed to encourage children of all ages to read, and to promote the love of reading among children. 

The Chair works closely with a designated teacher to plan events for the week and schedule volunteer readers for each classroom.

Time commitment - Event is in March

Recess Equipment

PE/Recess Equipment chair manages the supply and condition of recess equipment and works with teachers to order replacements as necessary.

Time commitment - Year round

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week – an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States.

The chair/committee plans activities for the week, promoting the importance of staying drug free.

Activity examples include special assemblies & speakers, distribution of bookmarks or pencils to remind our students to make wise choices and stay drug free!

Reflections in Art

Reflections In Art -  A national PTA campaign that encourages the arts through the interpretation of a theme.

Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.  Student winners from the local level have the opportunity to move up through their district, region, council and state PTA programs to the national level. National Reflections winners are celebrated annually at National PTA's Convention & Expo in June.

Chair Responsibilities:

  • Attend Reflections training thru TCPTA.  
  • Encourage participation from students through flyers and announcements.       
  • Organize entries  
  • Locate judges and coordinate judging of art work
  • Oversee Reflections reception.  

Time commitment - Launches in September, Projects due (October), Judging and Reception (TBD)

Scholarship Committee

Each year, the Anza PTA honors two alumni who are in their final year at West High with a scholarship for their excellence. These students are honored at a school assembly. The chair/committee is responsible for nominations and logistics.

Time commitment - February/March

Sponsorship Chair

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit business sponsors
  • Apply for in-kind donations for PTA to use as incentives/prizes during the school year
  • Coordinate business sponsorship perks throughout the year at various PTA events
  • Work with Corresponding Secretary to publish acknowledgments in newsletter and on social media

Summer Camp Auction

The chair/committee will solicit donations from camps and businesses that provide classes (both new organizations and organizations we have ongoing relationships with). Most solicitation is done via email. Chair would also be responsible for setting up camp items on our auction website and distributing gift certificates to the winners.

Yearbook 

The chair/committee is responsible for:

  • Recruiting a group of volunteer photographers to take photos during school events, 
  • Working with volunteers from each classroom to build the yearbook pages, 
  • Working with our print vendor to create the yearbook, and 
  • Organizing the distribution of yearbooks to our Anza families

Time commitment - Throughout the year (collect photos of all events); Compile yearbook online (spring)

Movie Night
Time commitment - Event is in February
Adopt A Family 

In collaboration with Salvation Army, Adopt A Family involves coordinating classroom Thanksgiving baskets for families in need.

AIA - Adventures in Art - Supply Chair

The Chair and committee maintains the inventory of supplies and bulk orders supplies online for five art activities scheduled  throughout the year.  

Training and guidance for purchasing supplies will be provided.  Attendance at all docent training workshops is highly recommended.

AIA - Adventures in Art Chair

The Adventures in Art chair supports the training of our volunteer docents to teach art concepts to the classroom. The Chair coordinates classroom schedules and recruits docents for classrooms. One years of docent experience in AIA is preferred. The Chair works collaboratively with the Adventures in Art Supply Chair to make decisions that benefit the program as a whole. 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate scheduled dates and must attend district level docent training workshops with Anza docents.
  • Responsible for coordinating docent training workshop set-up and clean-up for the area designated for school.
  • Maintaining open lines communication throughout the school year and developing support in the school community among teachers, staff, PTA, volunteers, parents and guardians.
  • Coordinate with teachers and the school supply chair to ensure students have supplies.

Anza Around the World

Anza Around the World is a fun filled week long adventure, multicultural themed, celebration that introduces our students to the beauty of the many cultures around the world. This program includes the following 3 main events:

  • Classroom presentations: The Chair helps to recruit parents to present cultures from countries around the world and coordinate times with teachers.
  • International Fair: The Chair recruits parents to display countries from around the world at booths in the cafeteria for a few hours after school.
  • Cultural performance: The Chair hires performers and schedules a school-wide assembly

Cookies & Cocoa 

Cookies and Cocoa Night is a fun evening celebrating the winter holidays. Cookies & cocoa are served along with playing bingo.  The chair/committee will coordinate the purchasing of cookies/snacks, cocoa, and prizes for the game winners.  Enlist volunteers to set-up, clean-up, and run the games.

Families & Students with Special Needs

Special education is a set of services, rather than a specific “place” for your child to go. Our PTA is dedicated to supporting the unique needs of these families and making sure they feel welcome at all of our events. We want to be available to take your feedback to learn how our PTA can make this happen.

Hospitality

The Hospitality chair schedules and plans various PTA events where the chairs and/or PTA board members get together. There will be 3-5 events during the school year.

(ex. Chair breakfast, Volunteer breakfast, PTA Installation dinner, PTA Holiday dinner).

Penny Wars

The chair/committee would coordinate the 3 day event in which students compete against other classes to bring in the most cash. The chair/committee would promote the event and enlist volunteers to help monitor the students during morning recess and to count/sort the money.

Chair is responsible for coordinating our See's Candies fundraisers in winter.

STEAM Fair

With the guidance from the TUSD Science Resource Teachers, the Chair and committee coordinates and organizes the event communication, STEAM Fair project submission process, judging and evaluation, and STEAM fair and award ceremony. 

The committee is provided a detailed timeline and instructions for the roles and responsibilities, including sample communication to parents of participants, flyers and announcements. The committee is provided a well-established and efficient digital repository with tools to conduct a successful STEAM Fair. The Chair reports top award recipients to TUSD who will then move on to the district STEAM Fair. The Chair or their designee serves as the liaison for participants in the regional and state level, and possibly beyond. The Chair coordinates with the Principal to share the results and celebrate the award recipients at every stage at one of the weekly assemblies.

Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation week is held early May.  The chair will coordinate the collection of snacks and host a breakfast bar in the staff room.

Talent Show

Talent Show is a production showcasing the talent of our students.  Performances include dance, music, magic, and variety.

The Chair is responsible for promoting the event and works closely with the designated teachers to encourage student participation, oversee the auditions process, coordinate the dress rehearsal, and arrange all logistics with Christy Orabuena (Theatre Teacher at West High School). 

Time commitment - Tryouts in February / Rehearsal and Event in April

Trunk or Treat Event

Coordinate with families/classrooms to decorate their cars for Halloween and ensure “trunkers” have items to hand out (candy and non-food) to children walking between vehicles.

Valet Chair

Chair responsibilities include:

  • Recruit volunteers to help with the valet drop off line in the morning
  • Coordinate with Ms. Di Vincenzo to call TPD Parking Enforcement when parking laws are not being followed in the neighborhood.
  • Help set up signage to ensure student safety.
