This memorial fund has been established by Surfside Swim Team in honor of Cynthia “Cindy” Tournat who coached at Surfside for over ten years, until 2020. Cindy was also a bilingual teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years. Cindy’s love for the water and the sport of swimming was infectious and she passed that on to all the swimmers who she coached.
This fund will provide $1,000 scholarships to seniors graduating from high school who are still active members of Surfside Swim Team through their senior year and who intend to further their education after high school in pursuit of a bachelor’s or other secondary degree or certification. Applicants must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and must not have any disciplinary infractions. If awarded, the scholarship money must be used for educational purposes.
To be considered for this scholarship, swimmers must apply between February 15th and May 15th. Applicants will be considered based on their involvement with the team and completion of all sections in the application below.
Selection of scholarship recipients is at the discretion of the Surfside Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified in July.
