Foundations for Teaching the Holocaust: Implementing the Gizella Abramson Holocaust Education Act on October 6, 2026

Learn about curriculum resources developed for the Gizella Abramson Holocaust Education Act in NC and how to teach foundational lessons about the Holocaust such as the Guidelines for Teaching the Holocaust, the historical photo narrative lesson, building a timeline of the Holocaust, and a lesson for teaching about Salvaged Pages, a collection of young people's diaries in the Holocaust. Each participant will receive a copy of Salvaged Pages as well! 

Space is limited, so signing up early is important. Public school classroom teachers who attend will have their substitutes paid for at the state rates for certified and non-certified substitutes. (Teachers may only get their substitute paid for by NCDPI once each school year through the workshops with NCDPI.)

You will also hear from a Holocaust survivor or a 2G or 3G survivor, who will share their story and interact with the audience in a question and answer session.

District leaders, instructional supervisors, and classroom teachers are invited to attend if they have not already attended the 2024-2026 workshops about the Act offered by NCDPI and the NC Council on the Holocaust.

The workshop will be held at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.

The workshop will run from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM.
