WAISN/LGBTQ Immigrant & Refugee Coalition Sponsorship Interest Form
Everyday more LGBTQ asylum seekers are presenting themselves at our border seeking safety and protection. Many more are being caught up in the deportation machine right here in Washington state, and ending up at the Northwest Detention Center. Chances to be released on bond, while pursuing an asylum case, increase with sponsorship. And, detention centers -- inhumane for all -- are particularly dangerous for LGBTQ individuals.

WAISN is seeking potential sponsors to support LGBTQ+ immigrants as they seek asylum. Sponsors households:
- Provide a home for one or more asylum seeker while they wait for their asylum case to be processed
- Receive mail on behalf of the asylum seeker to make sure that they keep up on court dates and legal proceedings
- Provide food, shelter, clothing and other necessities
- Provide support in connecting an asylum seeker with legal services, medical care, and community
- Are willing to connect with other sponsors and asylum seekers to help create a network of support

Thinking about opening your home to a stranger may be a difficult decision. Here is some additional information to learn more about the need and whether you might become a sponsor--

Have the above stories piqued your interest in possibly becoming a sponsor? If so, use the following form as a guide to discuss possible sponsorship with others in your household. And please know that you will not be in this alone; the LGBTQ Immigrant & Refugee Coalition is a group of individuals and organizations in Washington who are building a local network to ensure that the new community members arriving here are welcomed with resources and peer support. You have the opportunity to be a part of that network--we really hope you'll join us!

Next step, if you are indeed interested -- Complete and submit the form. We'll be in touch!
