As our district continues to grow we are looking at ways to steamline our transportation system. Most school districts across our state and our country are struggling to be fully staffed within their transportation departments. The Smackover Norphlet School District has not been exempt from these challenges. Therefore, we have been exploring ways to improve processes, and ultimately, consistency for families. With this in mind, the district will be making some changes to its processes for next school year in an effort to be as efficient as we can be.
To help with these changes we are asking that parents provide the following information to the district for all students requesting bus transportation this school year.
- Student Name (for each student who will request transportation) (if there are multiple students at the same address each will need this form completed for an accurate count)
- Student Address (the address they are legally residing at to attend our district)
- Student Residential Area (please select the area closest to your pickup location)
- Which campus will your child attend in the 26-27 school year
- How many days a week will your student ride the bus
These items are needed as we look at making the necessary changes to our route system, before the first day of school. Below are some examples as to why the changes are needed.
- Currently any child who gets to any bus stop may ride the school bus. This model creates scenarios in which the bus driver could not have complete and accurate information on which students are riding their bus on any given day. In addition, it limits the district in its ability to create the most efficient routes.
- Having parents of students who ride the bus provide accurate information on where they live, the campus their child attends, and the days that child rides the school bus will greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of our bus routes
