Wildfires are reshaping Europe's landscapes and communities. FLAMES is an immersive 8-day Training Course bringing together youth workers, educators, and community leaders to explore how we can build more fire-resilient, ecologically aware communities through practical skills, peer learning, and hands-on experience in the field.
Fom december 24th to october 1st, hosted at Ananda Kalyani, an ecological research and volunteering hub on the edge of the Serra da Estrela natural reserve in central Portugal, the programme combines:
- Wildfire prevention & community preparedness — practical approaches to risk reduction and emergency readiness
- Digital tools & environmental monitoring — European fire-monitoring platforms and mapping tools for local decision-making
- Ecological restoration & resilience building — field activities focused on soil protection, climate adaptation, and nature-based solutions
- Nature & well-being — yoga, mindfulness, and nature immersion woven throughout the week
Accommodation, meals (organic, plant-based), and travel reimbursement are covered according to Erasmus+ guidelines.
Who should apply?
Youth workers, educators, NGO staff, volunteers, community leaders, and environmental practitioners motivated to take action on wildfire prevention and climate adaptation. Participants with fewer opportunities are especially encouraged to apply.
Requirements: Reasonably good English; full attendance throughout the programme.
