Open Letter to Washstation Ltd.
We the undersigned write to you as students who rely on Washstation Laundry in halls of residence. While we understand the operational scale of the challenge faced in running a large business, we are frustrated and unsatisfied for the following reasons:
The service is unnecessarily expensive, especially given the poor quality of machines requires the same load to be washed and dried repeatedly. This has left those of us from lower-income backgrounds forced into a humiliating choice between forgoing basic hygiene and putting us under huge budgetary strain.
Both the machines and top-up systems are far too complex to use. In particular, making students go through a multi-step process to top up laundry when easier alternatives exist, and forcing people to top up their cards in multiples of £5, when the cost of washing and drying never adds up to multiples of £5 means it’s literally impossible for customers to get their money’s worth.
The service provided is poor: not only do clothes come out of washing machines still dirty, and out of driers still damp, but items are often damaged or ruined by the machines. Breakdowns are frequent, and machines often take far too long to get fixed.
In the light of these complaints, we ask you to address these issues as soon as possible. Hygiene is a pretty basic requirement, and it is a requirement you are failing to address.
