JuneteenthKC is proud to announce the 13th annual return of the Kansas City's Official Juneteenth celebratory activities to be hosted within the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District June 2024. This year is planned to be BIGGER than ever, therefore your commitment to serve is greatly appreciated as we prepare for over 25,000 attendees to the Historic Jazz District!!!!

We are in need of many community volunteers to help make these events a success. Children are welcomed to volunteer as long as they are accompanied with an adult.

T-shirts, water, refreshments and meal breaks (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided throughout the day. Volunteer commemorative Swag items will also be provided. There will also be a Volunteer Stewardship dinner 2 weeks after the event.

Volunteer Orientation:
Parade, Festival, & Mobile Distribution--DATE TBD-- a recording will  be posted online for volunteers to refer to that cannot attend the training date.

Community Float Building Project with Stone Lion Puppets--

JuneteenthKC is excited to announce we will be working with Stone Lion puppets and inviting the community to help build a float that will represent this year's official theme "The Resistance"--Celebrating. African Americans in the arts and their impact within the civil rights movement.

JuneteenthKC in partnership with Stone LIon puppets will be offering community build days and family take home construction kits to help create flags that will hang from the float to represent their household.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO BUILD!!

-- Setup Staging Area, Railing Blocks, Judges Stand
-- Guest Traffic Control

9:30 am - 12:00 pm: (10 Volunteers needed)

-- Crowd assistance

 Location: Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO)

11:00-3:00 pm (12 Volunteers Needed)
-Event Setup (tables, chairs and tents)
-Sorting and packing items to be distributed
-Assisting with setting up distribution stands **heavy lifting may be required**
-Creating family giveaway bundles/bags

4:00-7:30 pm (12 volunteers needed)
--Bringing items stored indoors outside to the mobile distribution areas
--Sorting and packing items to be distributed
--Greeting families arriving to the distribution/verifying family data
--Distributing giveaway items to families
--Event cleanup--breakdown tables, chairs and tents
--Assist within bringing in any leftover items and assist with packing into vehicles/storage areas

***Heritage Festival- Saturday, June 15th 12:00-9:00 pm
--Day of Volunteer Schedule & Roles--

Set Up 7:00-9:00am  (20 volunteers needed) 
--Setting up road barricades
--Assisting with assembling/setting up tents, tables and chairs
--Posting signs
--Assisting with stage setup
--Chalk marking special activity areas
--Directing vendors to appropriate check in
--Sorting & packing distribution items
--Transport all main stage & blues stage supplies/giveaways to backstage areas
--Distributing all bottled water to hydration stations, approved water vendors, and volunteer break areas

Vendor Fair Assistants 10:00-5:00 pm (12 volunteers needed) 
--Assist directing vendors to assigned booth areas
--Assisting vendors with loading in products and booth setup
--Monitoring/reporting trash & crowd issues within vendor market zone to event staff  

Youth Zone Assistants **must pass background check** (12 volunteers needed) 
 10:00 - 2:30 pm & 2:00pm - 6:30pm
--Assist with setting up youth special activities
--Assisting with youth activities
--Providing guest instructions and directions to special activities
--Assisting with cleanup after special activities
--Distributing youth give away items
--Monitoring/reporting trash & crowd issues within youth zone to event staff  

Guest Engagement 10:00-6:00 pm (12 Volunteers needed)
--Distributing swag items, commemorative booklets, maps, schedules, and promotional materials
--Directing guests and answering event questions
--Monitoring/reporting trash & crowd issues to event staff

Maintenance Crew Assistants (15 Volunteers needed)
1:00 - 5:30 pm & 5:00 - 9:30 pm
--Setting up trash barrels & placement throughout the district
--Assist with cleanup during special activities
