From 1995, Road Victim Advocacy NGOs under the umbrella of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims, FEVR, observed this Day (initiated by UK’s Road Peace Founder in 1993) – first as European Day of Remembrance, but soon as considered as World Day when various organizations across the world also joined.
Road accidents in India - Facts
➢ As per GLOBAL STATUS REPORT ON ROAD SAFETY 2015, 2, 07,551 deaths happened due to Road accidents in India. Which means around 24 death every hour i.e., One death in every 2.5mins.
➢ 16.6% of Global road safety accidents are happening in India.
➢ Estimated GDP loss due to Road crashes in India is 3%.
➢ Economy loss due to road accidents is ~ 3.8 Lakh Crore, which is 1/5 of overall country’s budget.
➢ 34% of road accidental fatalities are 2/3 wheelers.
LIFE IS PRECIOUS. We are losing such a priceless human life in seconds on roads, due to nothing but “negligence”.
On 19th Nov’17, along with the various teams across the world, in Chennai, M/s Thozhan conduct “NO MORE” - an initiative to remember the road traffic victims and to understand the importance of road safety and thereby curb the road accidents to save the priceless human life.
