Free Activities at Artcore - June 2021

Artcore is an international centre for contemporary art and creativity that is based in Derby, UK and is home to a gallery, studios, workspaces, shop, and café. A vibrant hub for commissioning, production, presentation, and debate, we offer opportunities for diverse audiences to engage directly with creative practices through participation and discussion. During COVID19 isolation we are taking our classes online so we can continue to connect with our community and support your well-being through creativity.

June 2021 - Summer Dream

Despite the wet and windy weather in May, there is no denying that summer is fast approaching! In the month of June, we celebrate Midsummer and the longest day of the year so let's hope we have the sun shining down for the solstice celebrations that take place worldwide.

At Artcore, we have plenty of crafty classes, focused photography and experimental endeavours for people of all ages and abilities and you can keep an eye on what we are doing throughout the month on our website where we will be posting weekly updates on what everyone has been up to in their sessions.

All sessions are free but must be booked in advance to secure your place as we have reduced numbers due to social distancing. Make sure to sign up to join our artists, staff team and mindfulness coach in our free activities as we explore, support, make and create together.

Please fill out the short form below and a member of our team will be in touch to confirm your place and details to attend.

Adults Courses:

1) In Our Thoughts
Creative support for people who have experienced loss throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. Receive a kit or join us at Artcore to help create a group piece for our upcoming memorial exhibition.

2) Un-Aware
In June and July, we are working with photographer, Ray Gumbley to discuss issues relating to crime and how crime has directly or indirectly affected them and look at some of the resources available to help each other.
Over the seven weeks attendees will also be given the opportunity to produce a piece of artwork through the medium of photography and will also be joined by a special guest speaker. All classes are free and Artcore can provide devices to work on photography if required.

3) Creative In Common
Free creative classes for adults involving easy-to-follow art and movement activities with opportunities to make new friends in sessions led by artist Nicki Dennett. Sessions will be at our Charnwood Street building with social distancing in place and will provide you with everything you need to get signed up and take part including materials and resource sheets. All abilities are welcome to join for creativity, conversations and a cuppa!

Children's Courses:

1) Express Yourself - Join artist Jane Dearden for six sessions exploring identity and taking part in group work through painting and creating portraits using mixed materials. For young people aged 8-15.

2) Future Endeavours - Young people aged 10-18 will work with professional artist Kathryn Borg in six weekly sessions to build on their creative growth with a focus on all things nature and science.
