Break the Shackles, is a coalition effort of organizations, advocates and directly impacted clients anchored by African Communities Together and the Envision Freedom Fund, formerly the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund. We need your help to protect Immigrant New Yorkers from Predatory Bond Companies!

Right now, more than 2,700 people are languishing in immigration jails in the New York area. Separated from their families and subject to inhumane prison-like conditions, immigrant New Yorkers can spend months and even years suffering behind bars as they fight deportation.

As multi-generational New Yorkers, as recent immigrants, as people who believe in justice, we call on New York State to end the exploitation of immigrant families by profiteering corporations. New York must pass the Protect Immigrant New Yorkers Act to:
+Prohibit private companies from using electronic shackles.
+Abolish fees and exorbitant interest rates on immigration bonds.
+Ensure immigrants are not misled by profiteering businesses.
