Request for Article Processing Charge (APC) Funds
The Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) initiative is devoted to accelerating the pace of discovery for Parkinson's disease. Through meaningful collaboration, research-enabling resources, and data sharing we believe we will find the answers we seek to understand, diagnose, and treat Parkinson’s disease. ASAP requires that articles resulting from ASAP-funded research projects through The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) be posted in an Open Access preprint repository then an open access forum with free, immediate readership rights. Read the full ASAP OA policy at https://parkinsonsroadmap.org/open-access-policy/.

ASAP through MJFF will pay reasonable article processing charges (APC fees) required by a publisher for open access publication if these requirements are met:

1 - The applicant/author must be a current ASAP awardee.

2 - The publication must arise (in whole or in part) from research conducted with ASAP funding.

3 - The publication must have been submitted to a reputable, peer-reviewed scientific journal operating as a fully open access (Gold OA) or hybrid open access (Green OA) entity.

4 - The research contained within the publication shall not have been previously published (in whole or in part) in another peer-reviewed journal.

5 - The publication status shall be either accepted in principle or formally accepted, but not yet in print, and the applicant/author must agree to provide MJFF with a copy of correspondence affirming that status.

6 - The publication must acknowledge Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research as a funder of the research and specify the corresponding ASAP Grant ID number within the appropriate section of the article’s main text (e.g. Acknowledgements, Funding, etc.).

The following language must be included in the acknowledgements section of the publication: “This research was funded in whole or in part by Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s [Grant number] through the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). For the purpose of open access, the author has applied a CC BY [replace with CC0, CC BY-ND if appropriate] public copyright license to all Author Accepted Manuscripts arising from this submission.”

7 - The applicant/author shall have not yet paid APC fees to the publishing journal.*

*NOTE: Requests for retroactive reimbursement of already paid APCs may be considered by ASAP-MJFF staff on a case-by-case basis, provided that requests are made within three (3) months of original payment and relate to a study published after January 1, 2021.
