5th Grade Family Night at Longfellow Elementary: A Night Under the Stars

6:00-7:30 pm

Fifth grade parents will receive information about how to support their children with reading, writing and math concepts that are being studied in school. Parents will have the opportunity to explore these concepts with their children. Title 1 funds will provide materials for you to use at home.

• Writing- In this session, you will learn about “Being a Writer”, the new writing program that is being implemented in all Howard County schools this year to promote good writing. Parents will be using an editing strategy to review a piece of writing.
• Reading- In this session you will learn one of the many strategies we use to help students summarize and show comprehension of fictional text. Parents and students will practice summarizing using the "Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then" strategy.
• Math- In this session you will have an opportunity to learn about how important fractions are and how we review Fraction Sense in 5th grade.

*Child care will be provided for children under 5 years old.
