What Does a Precinct Leader Do?
Precinct leaders are volunteers appointed by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) for two-year terms (renewable anytime). No experience is needed—training is provided!
Responsibilities include:
- Representing the Democratic Party at your polling place
- Engaging with voters to provide information and encourage turnout
- Knocking on doors and making calls to boost Democratic participation
- Helping shape the party’s position on ballot measures
- Supporting voter engagement efforts year-round
Your Role During Elections- Knock on doors and call voters
- Recruit volunteers for Election Day
- Attend virtual training
- Take shifts at Early Voting sites to represent the party
- Set up a table (if available), distribute sample ballots, answer voter questions, and report any issues
Year-Round Engagement (as you are able)- Follow up with volunteers
- Invite voters to Democratic events
- Share Democratic messages online
- Recruit new volunteers
- Organize small local events
Ballot Question Advisory Meeting
Before general elections, precinct leaders vote on party recommendations for state and local ballot questions.
Precinct Leader Commitments
- Support only Democratic candidates
- Stay neutral in Democratic primaries while acting as a precinct leader
- Do not serve as an election judge or registration officer while volunteering
- Represent the Democratic Party with professionalism and respect
