Global Registry of Biorepositories (GRBio)

GRBio provides a comprehensive source of information about biological repositories and the collections they contain. InstitutionIDs and CollectionIDs are Darwin Core Data Standard terms that are critical in identifying these institutions and collections. InstitutionIDs (sometimes referred to as 'acronyms' for institutions) must be globally unique identifiers. Unfortunately, there are approximately 130 InstitutionIDs that are used by more than one institution. There are approximately 300 institutions reported to be using one of these ambiguous identifiers.

Based on past experience, some of these institutions realized the problem and started using a different InstitutionID. Others may have become inactive or merged. We would like to add this information to GRBio to point users to the right institution.

The list of institutions that are using or have used one of these ambiguous InstitutionIDs is available at http://goo.gl/Lvruso.
