Early Access to Kindergarten or First Grade Application for the 2020-2021 School Year
Thank you for your interest in the Early Access to Kindergarten/First Grade program for the 2020-2021 school year. Littleton Public Schools (LPS) has established a program aligned to the requirements of Colorado House Bill 08-1021 for identifying "highly advanced" gifted children under the age of 5 who require comprehensive academic acceleration. Please note that very few students will meet these rigorous requirements.

Students applying for Kindergarten or First Grade who meet the October 1st birthday cutoff need not apply for Early Access.

If your child will be 5 years old before the start of the school year but does not meet the October 1st birthday cutoff for Kindergarten, or 6 years old before the start of the school year but does not meet the October 1st birthday cutoff for First Grade, you DO NOT need to apply for Early Access.

Once you have fully completed the online application and submitted it, you will be mailed a packet containing information for a student portfolio. When you have completed gathering the materials for the portfolio, a face-to-face appointment (the parent and the student must attend) will be scheduled with the District Coordinator for Gifted Education.

After reviewing the student portfolio and completing the interview, a decision will be made to determine if a formal assessment should be conducted. This assessment will be done by an LPS school psychologist at no cost to the parent. If you are planning to attend another district, please do not apply to LPS to complete the Early Access process. Also, outside evaluations cannot be used for making decisions about Early Access.

Students who qualify based on mandated requirements in Colorado House Bill 08-1021 will then move forward in the process. The District Coordinator for Gifted Education will bring all of the evidence to the school of enrollment to determine next steps. These next steps may include an interview with the student and parent, an observation of the student, etc. The final decision to accept or not accept is ALWAYS at the discretion of the local school. Parents will be notified by means of a Letter of Determination within 60 calendar days of receiving the completed application and portfolio.
