Decarcerate Sacramento is a coalition working to cancel any jail expansion, decrease jail populations, and shift county funds away from policing and incarceration to community-based systems of care that actually keep the public safe. We are multi-racial and committed to solidarity with Black, brown, and indigenous communities.
ThereĀ are a few different ways to help support our work. Once you complete the form,
we will send you more details on each of these options.
DS Member: This level of engagement will involve regular meetings and long-term,
significant organizing as part of the team.
DS Hotline Volunteer: In July 2022, Decarcerate Sacramento launched our Jail Hotline. This
is a phone number that folks inside Sacramento County jails can call at no cost,
which is answered by volunteers. This is a significant need at the moment, so we encourage you to consider pursuing this if it's a good fit!
Action Pool: We would like to collect a pool of people who would be interested in showing up for day-of type events. These events can be things like making public comments at Board of Supervisors meetings, jail support, or joining our visiting team to visit folks inside the jail.
We look forward to working with you to find the best ways to get you plugged into this work.
NOTE: Decarcerate Sacramento is now onboarding on a biannual basis, in the spring and fall. This cadence will allow is to be more consistent and intentional in our onboarding process and to give new members the support to plug in deeply with this work. Depending on when you complete this form, it may be up to six months until you receive a follow-up email. But we will reach out to everyone who completes this form before each onboarding cycle begins. We appreciate your patience and interest!
