2019 Nautilus Composer-Librettist Studio : Online Application
Thank you for your interest in our Composer-Librettist Studio!

In order to fill out this form and submit your application online, you must have a Gmail account (which is free and easy to set up). Alternatively, you can email us at staff@nautilusmusictheater.org and we can send you a PDF, which you can then fill out by hand and return to us via snail mail, or by dropping it off at our Studio in Lowertown St Paul.

This form is on a single page. Google Forms is not set up to let you complete part of the form, save it, exit, and come back later to finish it. We suggest you look over this application, copy the questions to a separate word processing document, prepare your responses, and then copy them back into this application in one sitting. If you do copy from a separate word processing document, keep it as a plain text document, as formatting may not copy properly (especially Microsoft Word).

Inquiries can be sent to staff@nautilusmusictheater.org; no phone calls please.

PART TWO: Experience
This section tell us a little more about what you've done, although previous experience in writing/composing for opera or musical theater is NOT required. We are interested in a wide diversity of experience, aesthetics, stature, and cultural backgrounds. These questions are intended to give us a sense of what kind of work you have done up to this point, either as a writer or composer.
Please note any artistic area in which you have already worked (use your own definitions). Check all that apply. You will have an opportunity to describe your experiences in the next question.
Please describe or comment on any of your choices above. Take as much space as you need. *

Please attach a current resumé (in PDF format only). *
Required
WRITERS: Please attach two writing samples (in PDF format only), limited to 20 pages. Although no previous experience with opera or music-theater is necessary, we are especially interested in seeing any theater work, lyrics, or poetry you might have written, or any other material that would give us a sense of your theatrical sensibility.
WRITERS: Please tell us where your support materials are from, and why you chose to submit this particular material.
COMPOSERS: Please attach two score samples (in PDF format only), limited to 20 pages. Although no previous experience with opera or music-theater is necessary, we are especially interested in seeing any vocal music you might have composed, and would like to get some sense of your notation skills. The quick creative process of the studio assumes at least some rudimentary notational skills; we can work with charts, and in some instances, graphic notation. If you have questions about this, contact us at staff@nautilusmusictheater.org.
COMPOSERS: Please tell us where your support materials are from, and why you chose to submit this particular material.
COMPOSERS: Please attach two audio samples (in MP3 format only), totaling no more than 10 minutes. If possible, please have the recordings correspond to the scores you have submitted.
FINAL NOTE FOR BOTH WRITERS AND COMPOSERS: This program is intended primarily for writers and composers who have professional experience. Applications from graduate students may be considered in rare circumstances, but it is unlikely that undergraduate students will be considered. Please note that the Studio is a full-time commitment. This year’s Studio runs from May 18th through June 2nd, 2019, with Rough Cuts readings on June 3rd and 4th. It has been strongly recommended by past participants that we require writers and composers to clear their schedules and not try to work on any other projects during this period, since most time outside the Studio is spent writing and composing. *
