Request for virtual assistance
We will open to Virtual clients starting February 1, 2024.   With the virtual option, you will use a weblink to answer questions and upload documents into a secure environment (Get Your Refund). Depending on your preferences, a volunteer preparer will contact with you via text, email or phone if they need additional information to complete your tax return. After your return is completed, a Quality Reviewer will reach out to your to go over your tax return on the phone. You will receive the completed return electronically and electronically "sign" the return. The entire process takes one to three weeks depending on the complexity of your tax return and the availabilty of volunteers.

A few notes before you get started:
- you must have a your own email address to receive virtual assistance
- you will need to be able to upload photos of your documents, or electronic versions of your documents
- service is limited to families whose income is less than $64,000
- we can only prepare state returns for DC, MD and VA
- to guard against identity theft, the IRS requires that we see a valid government photo ID AND that we see a copy of your social security card OR social security statement OR ITIN letter (unless you have not been issued a social security number or an ITIN)
- if you are claiming any dependents (including requesting the Child Tax Credit), we will also need to see copies of social secuirty cards (or ITIN letters) for all dependents

There may be some tax situations that are beyond the training and certification of our volunteers so we have a few questions to get started.
