This winter, North Jeffco faces a crisis. With the closure of the Severe Weather Shelter Network (SWSN), many unhoused individuals are at risk during life-threatening cold nights. As a compassionate and caring community, we have the chance to step in and make a difference by offering shelter through Arvada’s Church-Based Sheltering program hosted at The Rising Church.
Shelter Activation:
≤ 20 degrees or 6+ inches of snow accumulation, November 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025
Eligibility and Capacity:
Adults 18+ only, Congregate sleeping separated by gender, Nondiscriminatory
We need volunteers over the age of 21 to help run the program. This form is an opportunity to express interest and register with the coordinator for the season. Volunteers will be able to sign up for specific roles/shifts once a new platform is available (example Sign-up Genius or simple email request.) When a volunteer need arises for overnight sheltering an email will be sent out from coordinator(s) to the email address listed on this form.
Please note- If you are working directly with a Church, Organization or Group connect with your point person before filling out this form. There may be a different volunteer process.
Overnight volunteers must pass a criminal background check- Any violent felonies, sexual offenses, or misdemeanors within the past 5 years related to drugs or alcohol will disqualify overnight volunteer applicants.
All volunteers must agree to abide by all the same guidelines as guests and must agree to provide consistency in procedures and rule enforcement. Volunteers must protect client privacy by only sharing information about clients within the program.
