When his community called, Bill answered as a Councilman from 1966 to 1974 and as Scottsdale’s Mayor from 1974-1980. He blended teaching and community service by riding his bike at the end of the teaching day, across the street to City Hall. In the evenings, he graded papers and answered calls from constituents sitting at a modest desk in his home. Bill understood his duties to both loves and his responsibilities as a youth leader and community steward.
