Magic City Seams Jr 2021 Interest Form
Magic City Seams Jr (MCS Jr) is a program of Bib & Tucker Sew-Op; it is an expansion of Bib & Tucker’s Magic City Seams program, which trains adults in key aspects of soft-goods manufacturing.

MCS Jr will introduce students to the fields of graphic, product, fashion, and textile design. With emphasis placed on 4-year colleges, and with diminished electives in public schools, many students are not aware of potential career paths in the commercial and applied arts.

During our program, students will take part in various sewing projects where they will learn to sew garments and accessories. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in virtual workshops featuring designers, artists, and entrepreneurs. Magic City Seams Jr is open to any middle to high school student in the Birmingham area (incoming 7-12 graders as of the 2020-2021 school year). There will be eight Magic City Seams Jr sessions in 2021, with the first beginning in February. Each month-long session will focus on a new sewing project and students can register for one session or multiple.

Instructor Sonya Muhammad will implement a combination of virtual tutorials and live instruction. Though grant-funded in the past, the 2021 season of MCS Jr is fee-based, with a small number of scholarships available, depending on enrollment numbers.
