Having Nature Close to our Heart & Mind
We belong to Nature, not apart from it. Our lives are interwoven with the lives of countless beings, visible and unseen, human and more than human.

By completing this pledge, you affirm your commitment to mindful observation, biodiversity stewardship, ecological reciprocity, and respectful coexistence with the living world and with one another.

Together, we can cultivate a culture of curiosity, care, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

We invite you to read EwA’s Acknowledgement to Biodiversity, Land, and People, which reflects our commitment to ecological reciprocity, coexistence, cultural humility, and shared stewardship of the living world.

🌱 The EwA Nature Pledge
☐ I pledge to step outside regularly and make time to notice the living world around me, whether in a forest, wetland, vacant lot, shoreline, neighborhood tree pit, or my own backyard.

☐ I pledge to practice mindful observation, to learn from Nature with patience and humility, and to value common species and overlooked habitats as much as rare ones.

☐ I pledge to deepen my understanding of biodiversity and ecological relationships, recognizing that every species plays a role in the integrity of an ecosystem.

☐ I pledge to share my observations, knowledge, and sense of wonder with others, helping build a community rooted in curiosity, inclusion, and care.

☐ I pledge to respect wildlife and habitats by minimizing disturbance, staying aware of my impact, and following ethical practices whenever I am outdoors.

☐ I pledge to support coexistence by reducing harm in my daily choices, including reducing waste, pollution, unnecessary consumption, and practices that threaten biodiversity.

☐ I pledge to recognize that people experience Nature differently, and to help create welcoming and accessible spaces where more people can safely connect with the living world.

☐ I pledge to support participatory science and collective stewardship, understanding that careful observation and shared knowledge can help protect ecosystems and communities alike.

☐ I pledge to remain open to learning, especially from those whose ecological knowledge and lived experiences differ from my own.

☐ I pledge to act not out of fear or guilt, but out of relationship, responsibility, and gratitude for the living world that sustains us all.

📰 Stay Connected with EwA *

Would you like to stay connected with the EwA community through our seasonal newsletter and community listservs?

Our general newsletter is typically sent once per season and shares highlights, conservation stories, seasonal observations, and updates from the EwA community.

Our community forums and listservs are low volume spaces, generally with weekly activity, where we share field schedules, biodiversity walk announcements, participatory science opportunities, naturalist notes, conservation news, and community observations.

These spaces are meant to help people learn together, stay connected to local ecological rhythms, and participate in collective stewardship and observation.

Note that you can easily adjust notification settings at any time to receive updates in a way that works best for you.
