GRuB School Summer 2018 Application
WHAT IS THE GRuB SCHOOL PROGRAM: Students who participate will earn school credits, and in the summer, an educational award for leading farm and community work for GRuB; all while gaining leadership and life skills. This program is designed to help students grow and succeed in school, in life, and in future employment; it is not a true alternative high school option.

IN THE SUMMER, PARTICIPATING STUDENTS WILL:

~ Earn 1.0 Credit in CTE Practice of Sustainable Agriculture (Elective) through New Market Vocational Skills Center*
*Students/families do NOT have to pay for their student to attend the summer portion

~ Earn up to $1,000 for the summer, depending on attendance and participation (Educational Award)

~ Take home good fresh food from the farm every week

SUMMER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Farming the Land - Growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers organically on a 2-acre farm, learning practical gardening/farming skills through workshops and trainings, and running the flower bouquet, and produce CSA programs

Farming the Community - Working with community volunteers at the GRuB Farm, going on field trips to other farms/gardens that grow food for the greater community and helping them, working with families with young kids that visit the farm, and providing customer service at our market stand

Farming your Self - Developing strong leadership and facilitation skills, practicing compassionate & safe communication tools, learning how to be successful in a team, and cooking and eating great food

To qualify for GRuB School:
*Must be able to attend the ENTIRE Summer Program (7/9 - 8/21)
*Must have gone through 9th grade, and have not earned your GED or HS diploma yet
Where & When:
The Summer Program will take place at the GRuB Farm - 2016 Elliott Ave NW Olympia, WA 98502 (on the 41 Intercity Transit bus-line + students will get free monthly passes in the summer)

From 7/9 - 8/21, the schedule is:

Monday: 12pm to 3pm
Tuesday: 9am to 4pm
Wednesday: 1pm to 7pm
Thursday: 9am to 3pm
Friday: 9am to 4pm

Commitment:
 Be here and arrive on-time!
 Come prepared to participate and contribute in all activities
 Willing to learn and uphold professional behavior
 Wear appropriate clothes and shoes (we’re active & farming)
 Complete program evaluation forms
 Commit to the entire length of the program
