The City of Selma kindly invites your feedback on the recently completed pilot study at the intersection of Mitchell & Nebraska Avenue. This effort is part of the City of Selma’s Tactical Urbanism Safe Streets Study, which includes a series of temporary installations designed to address challenges related to pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. The purpose of the Selma Safe Streets Study is to implement temporary low cost traffic calming measures to determine if they are successful in calming traffic and creating safer environments in the City of Selma.
Due to its proximity to schools, parks, high vehicle speeds, and identification in the public survey, the Mitchell & Nebraska Avenue intersection was selected as an ideal location for a pilot project focused on pedestrian safety. This installation features a colorful thematic crosswalk to bring more awareness to pedestrians using the crosswalk, botts' dotts that provide tactile and audible feedback (the “rumble” feel/sound) that helps interrupt a driver’s normal driving rhythm and draw attention to a change in conditions ahead and hardended centerline with flexible posts to change driver behavior at the crossing to make left turns slower. The flexible posts, visually and physically “tighten” the turning path, which reduces turning speed and helps keep turning vehicles farther from the crosswalk space where people are walking.
Kindly take a few minutes to complete this survey, sharing your thoughts and experiences regarding the intersection modifications.Your feedback will help us better understand how the improvements have impacted your experience and enable us to make further enhancements.
