Though COVID-19 is only just beginning to impact our city many of our neighbors have already been affected. This means we need to show up for each other. Especially for those who are at great risk (the elderly, the immunocompromised, those with chronic illnesses, those with little to no access to health care)

What do we mean by mutual aid?

"Mutual aid is a term to describe people giving each other needed material support, trying to resist the control dynamics, hierarchies and system-affirming, oppressive arrangements of charity and social services. Mutual aid projects are a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for one another and changing political conditions, not just through symbolic acts or putting pressure on their representatives in government, but by actually building new social relations that are more survivable." *This form is managed by 815 Mutual Aid, an anti-capitalist collective dedicated to providing mutual aid in the Rockford area through the Coronavirus crisis. The “crisis” is a product of the racial capitalist system. We oppose the system.

We are a pro-feminist, pro-LGBTQIA, abolitionist, anti-racist and anti-colonial organization. We oppose racial capitalism and the State. In our work, we aim to center the most marginalized in keeping with black feminist traditions of organizing. We are committed to horizontal non-hierarchical decentralized organizing models. We are against State collaboration in any way which means we do not work with police, politicians, ICE, courts or government agencies. Media can contact our email for information about mutual aid, however we will not make statements or give interviews. We are committed to anonymity of our collective members, folks requesting aid and our volunteer network. We will not publicly post anyone’s information. We believe that a consistent security culture in our network will foster trust and safety within our community. We do not publicly criticize other anti-authoritarian organizations as that only serves to demoralize potential collaborators and make our movement appear weak and fractured.
