This proposed Urban National Recreation Area would bring much-needed attention and resources to the issue of community lands access and improve recreational opportunities for all Southland residents and families. The bill would also protect natural resources, safeguard water quality and fish habitat, by securing wildlife corridors and reducing trash, graffiti and user-created dams in and along the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo rivers.
The new Urban National Recreation Area will truly open up all the beauty of the San Gabriels to more Angelenos -- by creating park and open space in the San Gabriel Valley, connecting residents with nature, and eventually leading them to explore the mountains. It will also encourage more kids, especially those living in park-poor communities, to get outdoors and be more active, which can help to curb Southern California's obesity and diabetes crisis.
Thank you for your efforts and for continuing to push for California public lands!
