Are you thinking about joining the SCYM afterschool volunteer team this fall [STARS, GirlPower, Manpower, or Biz Ba$ics]? Check off everything that applies to you, and one of our program staff will get back to you with more information. All volunteer training takes place in early September, and programs kick off mid-September. Showing up for kids weekly is one of the best ways we know to help them crush the odds with the love of God!
STARS Afterschool Program serves 20 children grades K-6 at each site. Volunteers play with children (board games, puzzles, basketball, or ping pong, depending on site), participate in a Bible lesson, and help 1-3 children with homework and reading. STARS runs MON, TUES, from 3:00-5:00. Volunteers are welcome to come once a week for part or all of the time. Drivers are also needed! Teens and adults are welcome to volunteer.
GirlPower Afterschool Program serves around 10 middle school girls per site. Girls and leaders have discussion, build relationships, prepare a healthy snack together, and once a month work out at the YMCA together. Volunteers come weekly to build relationships with the girls and help with activities. Volunteers are not responsible to lead activities unless they would like to. Drivers are also needed! GirlPower runs MON, WED, THURS from 4-6pm.
Biz Ba$ics Afterschool Program helps 10-15 middle school students per site learn to start and run a small business. Volunteers come weekly to build relationships with students and help them with activities. Volunteers are not responsible to lead activities unless they would like to. Drivers are also needed! Biz Ba$ics runs MON & THURS from 4-5:30pm.
Manpower Afterschool Program serves around 15 middle school guys per site through relationship building, recreation, and Bible discussion. Volunteers come weekly to build relationships, play basketball or football together, and lead discussion for a group of 3 students. Drivers are also needed! Manpower runs TUES and THURS from 4-6pm.
