Lifeguard Job Description
Lifeguards are needed year round for recreational swimming, Rec programs and community rentals. Each lifeguard must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. (Rec LG certification courses are held each semester.) A Lifeguard is responsible for opening and closing the pool, monitoring all activities within Vanderbilt University’s natatorium, ensuring safety and cleanliness of aquatic equipment, seating areas, and pool deck.
Lifeguards also provide high-quality customer service, enforce facility policies, and ensure compliance with Metro health requirements. Lifeguards are expected to be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared at all times to perform their job duties. Lifeguards will demonstrate a high level of professionalism and a willingness to positively interact with patrons as well as other staff members in the department. Lifeguards must be able to lift at least 30lbs.
Swim Instructor Job Description
Swim Instructors teach both private and group lessons for youth and adults throughout the year. Applicants must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification. Previous experience required.
Instructors are required to communicate effectively with the swimmers and the parents for youth participants. Instructors will promote swimming skills and Learn to Swim techniques as prescribed by the Rec or the American Red Cross. Instructors must be able to lift at least 30lbs.
