What: A unique blend of STEM and History & Culture, The William J. Watkins Sr. Educational Institute in partnership with All This Math, LLC is hosting an in-person Histematics Summer Program. The Program is extended with monthly virtual Saturday sessions throughout the following school year. Histematics Summer Program participants will learn African American History through Math and vice versa. The Program will develop participant's math skills (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics and data analysis), critical reading ability and politico-historical awareness.
Students will be provided community education through engaging relevant books. Each week of programming will focus on a different book and be accompanied by related math word problems. By the final week of the program, students will be challenged to use their own critical thinking ability to create their own math word problems.
Students will engage in weekly cultural Friday field trips throughout the Histematics Summer Program to connect real-world application of the word problems studied throughout the week.
Participants will receive a nominal participation stipend at the culmination of the Program.
